Inside Diana Wyenn's Blood/Sugar Virtual Performance
Blood / Sugar is a sixty-minute solo performance that explores theater artist Diana Wyenn's own body and the chronic non-communicable disease it carries—Type 1 Diabetes—as a vehicle for transmission. Inspired by philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy’s L’intrus and actor Mark Rylance’s 2004 performance in William Shakespeare’s Richard II, Wyenn uses text, voice-over, and choreography to challenge the binary of health and illness, while searching for balance in the bardo, the liminal space between life and death. Unfolding on a rich aural landscape, Blood / Sugar weaves the personal and the existential, the historic and the artistic, the stories we tell ourselves, and the truths we find hard to believe.
All performances are directly followed by a thirty-minute discussion with local diabetes educators.
