This hands-on 7-week workshop mirrors the experience of being a staff writer on a television show. The cohort of six writers (plus an instructor and writer’s assistant) will create the series bible and pilot episode for a web series.
In addition, the students will have the opportunity to pitch their completed series to industry professionals for feedback.
Students will work together to:
Develop the web series
Pitch episode ideas
Break story in a virtual writer's room
Write scenes
Learn how to give and take notes
Create a series bible
Write a sample episode of the series
Laura Brennan
Instructor
Laura Brennan’s eclectic career includes almost every storytelling medium, from theater, television, and film to web series, short stories, and video games. A graduate of Yale University, Laura has won awards for journalism, television writing, and fiction.
Laura worked for many years in the Highlander universe and was an executive with The Action Adventure Network; TV writing/producing credits range from PBS news shows to Saturday afternoon adventures such as Highlander: The Raven and The Lost World.
Hallie Blakeslee
Writing Assistant
Hallie Blakeslee is a writer from Southern Idaho. Having struggled with low vision and Autism Spectrum Disorder her entire life, Hallie's dream is to write TV shows that reflect her unique experiences. Hallie started off as an intern at WeXL, and now her animated feature film and novel, The Whisper, is part of our WeXL Creator Studios portfolio.
