A Family Divided: The Impact of Incarceration on Children
Mass incarceration is not a new subject to America, as the U.S. is the leading country in prison population. This leaves children vulnerable-- 1 in 12 kids will experience parental incarceration in their lifetimes. Not only does incarceration separate families, but it can impact a child’s health for many years after youth.
In this episode of American Wellness, Clinical Psychologist and President of Healthy Connections Psychological Services, Frank Corigliano discusses how incarceration can affect a child's upbringing, oftentimes leaving them without a parent for years. He dives into a growing solution, televisiting, as a way to bring together families and reunite children with their parents. Learn about how technology is advancing healthcare in incarcerated families and how televisiting promotes connection, even in the divided.
